Guest Bedroom Retreat: Ideas on How to Create a Relaxing yet Multifunctional Sanctuary

With the rise in working from home, our spare rooms are having to up there game and become both comfortable and inviting, practical and functional whilst remaining stylish and beautiful. This is a pretty big ask for one of the, usually, smaller rooms in our home.


Here are our ideas on how to create a successful multifunctional guest bedroom, and how to get the balance just right;

1. Layout is Key: Spend some time planning out the layout of your space. Experiment with layouts that aren’t obvious. Zone the space into areas with different functions. Use rugs or colour blocking on the walls to create visual separation. Don't forget the vertical dimension, if space is at a premium go up!

2. Clever Furniture: A fold away desk that can be collapsed when guests are staying, or a sofa that can be turned into a bed when needed. Use furniture that can have double functions, a coffee table that can become a bedside table, or a desk lamp that can become a reading lamp. Think about the functionality without sacrificing style.

3. Super Storage: You need to think about what you do and don’t want on show when guests are staying, and consider where they can hang and store their clothes and belongings.

4. Calming Colour Palette: Think soft pastels, muted neutrals, or gentle earth tones which will create a relaxing environment for both work and sleep.


5. Flexible Lighting: Lighting plays a crucial role in creating a relaxed ambiance. Install dimmer switches to control the brightness and use a mix of task lighting and soft ambient lighting.

  1. Don't Scrimp on The Bed: Although sleeping may be the secondary function in the space make a sure you opt for a comfortable mattress and quality bedding. Add cushions and and large bedspread for that extra touch of luxury.

Creating a multifunctional guest bedroom that's relaxed and friendly, whilst still meeting your functional work needs doesn't have to be a daunting task. With a little creativity, thoughtful planning, and these tips, you can design a space that's perfect for guests and fits seamlessly into your home and lifestyle!
